The calcium ion also adsorbs other reactive oxygen species such as singlet oxygen and superoxide anion. Calcium mesoxalate trihydrate is used as an additive in products such as glycerol and dihydroxyacetone to prevent oxidation reactions. It is also used in some toothpastes to prevent cavities by inhibiting bacterial growth on teeth.
