Description:

Columbium oxalate is a new type of perovskite material that can be used as an electrolyte in fuel cells. It has been shown to have high electrochemical stability and to produce a voltage of 0.8 V, which is suitable for use in hydrogen fuel cells. Columbium oxalate has been synthesized by the dehydration of columbium hydroxide at 500°C. The synthesis process involved the use of a homogeneous catalyst (e.g., ethane) and amines as feedstocks, with some metal ions (e.g., zinc) added at various stages during the reaction. This material was also found to have excellent catalytic properties for the production of ethylene from ethane, with x-ray absorption spectroscopy identifying that it contains CdO-type perovskites.
