1,3-dimethyl 5-(prop-2-en-1-yloxy)benzene-1,3-dicarboxylate (DMBDC) is a chemical compound that can be prepared by the reaction of isopropanol and methacrylic acid. This reaction forms the dianion of DMBDC. DMBDC has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of diarylmethanes and disproportionation reactions. The catalytic properties of DMBDC make it an efficient transfer agent for hydride and ethers. It also undergoes efficient hydrogenation when treated with a catalyst such as platinum black or palladium on charcoal.
