Succinic acid-d6 is an extracellular marker that is synthesized by the pancreas and used as a pancreatic cancer marker. It is a substrate for uptake by the cells of the pancreas, which can be detected in pancreatic cancers using positron emission tomography. Succinic acid-d6 has been shown to be correlated with prognosis and may serve as a predictor of response to therapy. Succinic acid-d6 can also be used to differentiate between different types of cancer through metabolic profiling or in vitro studies on cell lines. The unlabelled succinate analogs are useful for decoupling metabolite identification from metabolism. This provides an opportunity to study metabolic reprogramming induced by cancer treatments and strategies for improving treatment responses.
