Hydroquinonesulfonic acid potassium salt is a sulfonated prodrug that is converted to hydroquinone by the liver. Hydroquinonesulfonic acid potassium salt inhibits the growth of cancer cells and has been used in the treatment of skin cancers. It is also a chemical stabilizer that can be used in polymer plating and as an oxidation catalyst for organic compounds. Hydroquinonesulfonic acid potassium salt also has an important function in maintaining electrolyte balance, as it can absorb protons from the body and release them again during its conversion to hydroquinone. This drug prevents potassium from being lost from the body, which may be beneficial for patients with impaired kidney function.
