Methyl 3-acetylbenzoate is a benzene derivative that is used as a solvent in organic chemistry. It is a precursor to the drug anthracycline, which inhibits DNA synthesis and protein synthesis in bacteria. Methyl 3-acetylbenzoate is not considered to be environmentally hazardous, but can form ozone when it reacts with ultraviolet light.
