Trans-4-tert-butylcyclohexanol is a stereoselective chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of skin conditioners. It is also used as a solvent for hydrochloric acid and an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. The deuterium isotope, D, has been shown to be an effective substitute for hydrogen in the hydrogen bond between trans-4-tert-butylcyclohexanol and water molecules. This substitution has been shown to change the reaction mechanism from one that is irreversible to one that is reversible. Trans-4-tert-butylcyclohexanol also reacts with a carbonyl group to form an isomeric mixture of products.
