Product Information
2,6-Dimethoxybenzamide is an ethyl-substituted derivative of the benzoic acid amide that binds to two receptors: dopamine and remoxipride. This compound has been shown to have low levels of toxicity in mice. 2,6-Dimethoxybenzamide has been shown to bind competitively to the D2 receptor and act as a partial agonist. It also binds to the D1 receptor, which may be responsible for its antipsychotic effects. The binding affinity for these two receptors is different, which may explain why 2,6-dimethoxybenzamide does not produce extrapyramidal side effects typical of full dopamine agonists like bupropion or bromocriptine.
2,6-Dimethoxybenzamide can also inhibit the metabolism of remoxipride by monoamine oxidase type A (MAO-A) enzymes and demethylate dopamine molecules into inactive metabolites.
