2,6-Dimethylbenzoyl chloride is a nucleophilic compound that is used as an inflammatory bowel disease drug. It inhibits the uptake of chloride ions in the inflamed areas of the bowel and reduces inflammation. 2,6-Dimethylbenzoyl chloride has been shown to inhibit cell apoptosis in human liver cells and can be used as an antiviral agent. This substance also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by binding to DNA. 2,6-Dimethylbenzoyl chloride can be synthesized by diazotisation with sodium nitrite followed by reaction with benzoyl chloride. The resulting product is a white solid that exhibits fluorescence under ultraviolet light.
