1,3-Dimethyl-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine-2,4(3H,5H)-dione is a halogenated monohydrochloride of the dihydrate hemihydrate form of 1,3-dimethyl-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine. It has hypoglycemic properties and is an inhibitor of peptidase and peptidyl dipeptidase IV. The exact mechanism of this drug's action is not known. However, it has been shown to decrease blood sugar levels in both diabetic and non-diabetic animals by reducing glucose absorption from the intestine and increasing insulin release from the pancreas.
