4-Benzyl-1-(Boc-amino-acetyl)-piperazine is an industrial preparation that is used as a synthetic intermediate. It is a hexanoic acid ester of 4-benzyl piperazine. The compound was synthesized by reacting hexanoic acid with Boc-protected aminoacetic acid in the presence of triethylamine, trimethyl orthoformate, and tert-butyl alcohol. 4-Benzyl-1-(Boc-amino-acetyl)-piperazine was obtained as a white solid.
It has been used in the microbial catalysis of benzoic acid to phenol and naphthoic acids to nitro compounds. It has also been used in the synthesis of other benzyl derivatives such as 4-(benzoyloxy)phenylamine, 4-[(4'-aminophenoxy)methyl]benzene, and 2-[(2'-amin
