Product Information
2-Amino-6-propanoylpteridin-4(1H)-one is an organic compound that belongs to the group of pteridine derivatives. It is a fluorescent compound that has been used as a substrate in immunoassay methods for PDE5, which is an enzyme that hydrolyzes cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and regulates smooth muscle relaxation and blood flow in the corpus cavernosum. 2-Amino-6-propanoylpteridin-4(1H)-one binds to PDE5 by competitive inhibition, inhibiting the hydrolysis of cGMP and leading to an increase in intracellular cAMP levels. This leads to increased cellular levels of cAMP, which can activate protein kinase A (PKA). Activation of PKA inhibits phosphodiesterase activity, leading to increased levels of cAMP and enhanced smooth muscle relaxation.
