Bicifadine is a pharmaceutical preparation used for the treatment of hiv. It is an anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the inflammatory response by inhibiting the uptake of serotonin and preventing it from being re-absorbed into the cells. Bicifadine has been shown to be effective in reducing pain in animal models, as well as in treating autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. The drug also has a role in Parkinson's disease, where it prevents dopamine depletion. Bicifadine can act as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor or a dopamine receptor antagonist, depending on its concentration.
