- 2,6-Diethylaniline Hydrochloride
2,6-Diethylaniline hydrochloride is an amine that is metabolized in humans by the atp-binding cassette transporter. In vitro studies have shown it to be genotoxic, which may be due to its ability to form DNA adducts and cause DNA strand breaks. 2,6-Diethylaniline hydrochloride has been shown to affect the ventricular myocytes of animals and has a quinoline structure. It is also used as a viscosity control agent for oil well drilling fluids. This compound has two major cleavage products: amines and hydrochloric acid. These cleavage products are a result of the hydrolysis of the ester linkage between 2,6-diethylaniline hydrochloride and its carrier molecule, diethylenetriamine. The optical properties of this compound are yellowish orange in color with a maximum absorption wavelength at 495 nm.
