4-Oxo-5(R)-(2Z)-2-pentenyl-2-cyclopentene-1(S)-octanoic acid (OPC) is a natural product that belongs to the family of inhibitors of cycloheximide. It has a strong effect on physiological function and biochemical properties in plants, including inhibition of signal peptidase activity, inhibition of fatty acid biosynthesis, and transcriptional regulation. OPC also inhibits insect resistance in plants by binding to proteins that are required for the synthesis of insect toxins. This compound can be synthesized from trifluoroacetic acid and propyl acetate.
