Product Information
Goniotriol is a chiral, stereoselective, aldehyde that has been shown to be an antimycobacterial agent. It inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other related mycobacteria by interfering with the synthesis of DNA and RNA. Goniotriol also has cytotoxic activity on cancer cells in culture. The mechanism of action for this compound is not known, but it may be due to an effect on membrane lipids or protein synthesis.
Goniotriol blocks the conversion of cholesterol to ergosterol in fungal membranes. This inhibition prevents the production of ergosterol-containing cell membranes, leading to cell death.
