Description:

Goniodiol 7-acetate, also known as leiocarpine, is a natural product with anti-tumor effects. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancerous cells by inhibiting DNA and protein synthesis. The compound was first isolated from rhizomes of the plant genus Liriope (L. sesquipedalis). Goniodiol 7-acetate inhibits the synthesis of annexin, leading to a decrease in cell adhesion and an increase in detachment of cells from surfaces. This agent also has been shown to be effective against cancer cells that are resistant to radiation therapy, such as leukemia and lymphoma.
