Ocinaplon is a drug that has been shown to be effective for the treatment of insomnia. It is a drug with a long duration of action, which can last up to eight hours. Ocinaplon binds to the benzodiazepine site on the α1 subunit of GABAA receptors, and is an analog of zolpidem. This drug also has been shown to have a positive effect on cardiac arrhythmias in clinical trials. The effective dose of ocinaplon ranges from 30-120 mg per day, and should not exceed 120 mg per day. Ocinaplon can be used as long-term treatment for insomnia, with some side effects including dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, and nausea.
