Description:
2-Amino-3-[4-(benzyloxy)phenyl]propanoic acid is an antidiabetic drug that is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV. This drug prevents hydrolysis of the amide bond in some types of peptides, such as glucagon and insulin, which are involved in blood sugar regulation. 2-Amino-3-[4-(benzyloxy)phenyl]propanoic acid also has been shown to inhibit the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) by reducing levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In addition, this compound is able to facilitate glucose uptake into cells and increase insulin secretion from pancreatic β cells.
