Description:
12-(7-Nitrobenzofurazan-4-ylamino)dodecanoic acid is a fatty acid that is found in the phospholipids of the mitochondria. It has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and promote apoptosis in vitro in gland cells. 12-(7-Nitrobenzofurazan-4-ylamino)dodecanoic acid also inhibits cycloheximide uptake and caspase-9 activity, which are involved in the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis. This compound has fluorescing properties and reacts with DNA to form a molecule that can be detected by electron microscopy. The neutral pH of 12-(7-Nitrobenzofurazan-4-ylamino)dodecanoic acid allows it to be used as an indicator for protein activity.
