Description:
4-bromo-1-methyl-2-nitroimidazole (4BMN) is an organic nitro compound that has been used as a reagent for the preparation of other brominated compounds. 4BMN is selectively demethylated and debrominated with sodium methoxide, yielding methyl propyl nitrate and methyl 2-nitroimidazole, respectively. The methyl 2-nitroimidazole can be further derivatized to produce 2-(chloromethyl)-3-nitroimidazolium chloride, a useful reagent for the preparation of 3-aminopropyl groups.
