Achatin-1 is a group p2 molecule that has been found to inhibit the function of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at the GABAA receptor. It has also shown some activity as an H1 antagonist, although it is not currently used for this purpose in humans. Achatin-1 inhibits protein synthesis and its biological function is unclear. This molecule has been identified by analytical chemistry and X-ray crystal structures are available.
Achatin-1 may be a potential drug candidate for treating neurological disorders such as epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.
