4',4''''-(1,4-Phenylene)bis(2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) (TPE-Py) is a ligand that binds to transition metal ions. The coordination of TPE-Py with the metal ion stabilizes its ground state and makes it insensitive to thermal excitation. This property allows TPE-Py to be used as a subtending ligand in cryogenic electron microscopy. TPE-Py also has antibacterial activity against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
