1-Isobutyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-beta-carboline-3-carboxylic acid is a molecule that has been shown to have hypoglycemic activity. It has been shown to be a potent activator of 5HT3 receptors and to stimulate the release of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH). The TRH is mediated by carbonyl groups in the molecule. This drug has been shown to be excreted in urine as quinoline derivatives. 1-Isobutyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-beta-carboline-3-carboxylic acid is a member of the quinolinecarboxylic acid class of compounds with a conformation that allows it to bind hydrogen bonds between polar amino acids on the 5HT3 receptor.
