3-Chloro-6-hydroxy-2-methoxybenzoic acid is a white solid with a melting point of about 200 degrees Celsius. It is soluble in water and alcohol. 3-Chloro-6-hydroxy-2-methoxybenzoic acid is the active ingredient in Pluronic F127, which is used as a transport enhancer for drugs. 3CMA was shown to have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli when tested in a model system. The compound has been found to be an absorption enhancer for topically applied drugs, but also has some limitations due to its low solubility in water vapor.
