Sodium 3-oxo-3H-benzo[D]isothiazol-2-ide 1,1-dioxide hydrate is a chemical that belongs to the class of thermal expansion agents. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity on primary cells and high resistance to thermal degradation. The x-ray crystal structures of propranolol hydrochloride and sodium 3-oxo-3H-benzo[D]isothiazol-2-ide 1,1-doxide hydrate have been determined to be similar. This similarity may be due to the fact that both compounds are benzene derivatives with an aromatic ring system with a dioxane substituent. Sodium 3-oxo-3H-benzo[D]isothiazol-2-ide 1,1 -dioxide hydrate has been shown to cause neuronal death in rats by inducing fatty acid peroxidation and particle formation in the brain.
