Product Information

Name:
Pyrazine-2,3-diol
Description:

Pyrazine-2,3-diol is a pharmaceutical preparation that is used to treat high blood pressure. It contains a copper complex and intramolecular hydrogen bonds that are important for its mechanism of action. This drug binds to the carboxylate of angiotensin II receptors in vascular smooth muscle cells, thereby inhibiting the production of angiotensin II, which regulates blood pressure. Pyrazine-2,3-diol also inhibits microbial growth by binding to the cyclohexane ring of riboflavin, preventing the formation of riboflavin-5'-phosphate (FMN), which is an essential component in bacterial metabolism. The reaction products with aliphatic hydrocarbons are thought to be responsible for its antihypertensive effects.
