Acetylsalicylic acid-d3 has been shown to irreversibly inhibit cyclooxygenase, which is an enzyme that converts arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2. This inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators and alleviates pain. The biological relevance of this drug can be determined by its ability to produce detectable levels of acetylation in human cells.
