1-Aryl-3-(pyridin-4-yl)thiourea is an antibacterial that has been shown to be active against a number of Mycobacterium strains, including M. tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis by binding to the enzyme DNA gyrase and preventing its function in DNA synthesis. It is also able to bind with high affinity to mycobacterial RNA polymerase, but does not inhibit it. 1-Aryl-3-(pyridin-4-yl)thiourea has been evaluated as a possible treatment for tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections.
