2-(3-Formyl-1H-indol-1-yl)-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)acetamide is a potent inhibitor of HIV infection. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells in vitro and to prevent the production of epidermal growth factor and other growth factors in cells. 2-(3-Formyl-1H-indol-1-yl)-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)acetamide is also an antagonist at the kappa opioid receptor, which may contribute to its antiinflammatory effects. In vivo studies have shown that 2-(3-Formyl-1H-indol-1-yl)-N-(4methoxyphenyl)acetamide may be useful for the treatment of bowel diseases and congestive heart failure.
