3-Methyl-6-(trimethylsilyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine is a solvent that is used in the preparation of carboxylic acids and other organic solvents. It is also used as a reagent for the removal of anions from ionic liquids. 3-Methyl-6-(trimethylsilyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine has been reported to be stable and soluble in hexanes. This compound can be recrystallized from water or ether to yield needles. 3-Methyl-6-(trimethylsilyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine is also used as a solvent in preparative methods such as recrystallization.
