Product Information

Name:
Ethyl 3-aminofuran-2-carboxylate
Synonyms:
  • 2-Furancarboxylic acid, 3-amino-, ethyl ester
  • Ethyl 3-Aminofuran-2-carboxylate
Description:

Ethyl 3-aminofuran-2-carboxylate is a synthetic molecule that inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase and is used as an antibiotic. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against E. coli and other bacteria, including those resistant to rifampicin. Ethyl 3-aminofuran-2-carboxylate inhibits bacterial transcription by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of RNA polymerase, preventing the formation of an enzyme complex with the DNA template necessary for transcription. Molecular modeling studies show that this compound interacts with bacterial RNA polymerase in a way that is similar to rifampicin, which is also an antibiotic.
