Promazine is a low-potency antipsychotic agent with possible anti-anxiety effects. It has been shown to have photochemical properties and is used as a marker in analytical methods for various drugs. Promazine can cause drug interactions when combined with other medications, including the skin cells that produce dopamine. Promazine binds to the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, which is found in high concentrations in the brain and has been implicated in memory and learning functions. Promazine also has herbicidal properties and can inhibit the growth of certain fungi by binding to calcium ions.
