Diphyllin is a glycoside derivative that is used as a pharmacological agent. It has been shown to inhibit cell factor, ATP-sensitive K+ channels, and glycoside derivatives in the pathogenic mechanism of colorectal adenocarcinoma. Diphyllin also inhibits the growth of Candida glabrata by interfering with intermolecular hydrogen bonding at the cell wall. The major metabolites of diphyllin are 6-hydroxydiphyllin and 2,6-dihydroxydiphyllin. Diphyllin has been shown to have antioxidant properties that may be due to its ability to induce peroxidation of lipids.
