Trofosfamide is a cytotoxic drug that belongs to the class of alkylating agents. It is used in chemotherapy to treat certain types of cancer. Trofosfamide has been shown to have cardiac effects and can cause cardiotoxicity, such as arrhythmias and congestive heart failure. It also has a median lethal dose (LD50) that is lower than other alkylating agents, such as cyclophosphamide. Trofosfamide inhibits polymerase chain reactions by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerases and preventing transcription and replication. Trofosfamide can be used in combination with immunotherapy or antiviral drugs, such as ifosfamide, for treatment of viral infections. This drug may interact with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which may result in an increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding.
