5,15-Diphenylporphyrin is a molecule that is found in the lung and has been shown to inhibit growth of lung fibroblasts. It appears to be a reactive agent that inhibits cell growth by blocking metathesis reactions. 5,15-Diphenylporphyrin has also been shown to be a potential drug target for cancer treatment due to its ability to stop the production of epidermal growth factor on cancerous cells. This molecule binds the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on the cell surface and prevents it from binding to epidermal growth factor, which is necessary for cell division. 5,15-Diphenylporphyrin can also be used as an alternative treatment for psoriasis because it blocks epidermal growth factor receptor signaling and inhibits skin cell proliferation. 5,15-Diphenylporphyrin is absorbed through inhalation and may cause irritation if inhaled.
