Dacarbazine is a chemotherapeutic agent that is used in the treatment of cancer. It inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to the topoisomerase II enzyme and interfering with the unwinding of DNA. Dacarbazine has been shown to be metabolized in the liver, where it undergoes oxidative dechlorination and reduction. The compound can also be metabolized through hydroxylation or methylation by cytochrome P450 enzymes. Dacarbazine has antineoplastic properties, which are due to its ability to inhibit tumor growth by inducing cell death or arresting cell division.
