- Indene, 4,6-dimethyl-
- 1H-Indene, 4,6-dimethyl-
4,6-Dimethyl-1H-indene is a labile organic compound with a benzene ring and an arene group. It is synthesised from mesitylene in the presence of fluorenyl, pyridine and naphthalene. The reaction proceeds via protonation of the methyl group followed by deprotonation at the benzylic position to give the aromatic product. 4,6-Dimethyl-1H-indene can be used as a fluxional molecule to study the effects of protonation and deprotonation on its structure.
