6-Methoxy-1-naphthol (6MN) is a naphthol that is used in the study of the immobilized enzyme butyrate dehydrogenase. It is also used as a chemical intermediate for the preparation of other chemicals. 6MN has been shown to be a maleate and mediated substrate for phosphonates, carbonyl reduction, quinones, and cyclic carbonyl compounds. The stereochemical outcome of these reactions depends on the reaction conditions. The hydrogenation of 6MN produces a mixture of trans-2-butene and cis-2-butene.
