Description:
4-Hydroxy-5,5-dimethyl-2(5H)-furanone (DMF) is a pyrroloquinoline alkaloid with analgesic and antimicrobial properties. DMF is synthesized from 2,3-dihydropyrrole by various routes. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activities against some bacteria and fungi. DMF also has been found to be an analog of benzodiazepinone and shows similar binding to GABA receptors as benzodiazepinones.
