Description:

4-Chlorobenzil is a nucleophilic reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It has been shown to react with amines and other nucleophiles by means of an electrophilic substitution reaction. 4-Chlorobenzil can be used as a precursor to synthesize quinoxalines, which are potential drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease. The mechanism of this transformation involves the formation of a trisubstituted chloroquinone, followed by photobiol mediated chloride elimination and dehydrogenation.
