1-Azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane-4-amine is a recyclable and efficient ionic catalyst for the conversion of β-unsaturated alkyl derivatives to their corresponding amines. This process is catalyzed by 1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane-4-amine in an ionic liquid, which is recycled to the reaction system and reused for many cycles with no loss in performance. The process offers high yields, and has been shown to be selective towards the desired product, giving low amounts of other products that are not desired in this type of reaction.
