Ecdysterone is a natural product with a chemical structure of 20,22-dihydroecdysterone. It is classified as an ecdysteroid. Ecdysteroids are used by organisms to regulate metabolism, growth, and development. The spinosa plant produces ecdysterones that have been shown to have insecticidal properties. Ecdysterones also show antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria. The structure of the compound has a backbone of six carbons with two hydrogens on each side. This compound can be found in the spinosa plant, which is the source for ecdysteroids that are used as pesticides or insecticides. Ecdysterones are not very soluble in water and are therefore not readily available commercially. The most common form of this compound is ecdysterone monoacetonide (EcMA). EcMA can be found at high concentrations in the seeds of the plant and is extracted from them
