Description:
1-(2,4-Bis(benzyloxy)phenyl)ethanone is a white solid that is soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform, benzene and ether. It has a melting point of 150-160 ˚C. This compound can be synthesized by the reaction of anhydrous potassium carbonate and benzyl alcohol with 4-isopropylresorcinol. The product is obtained as a white crystalline solid which can be purified by recrystallization from an appropriate solvent. 1-(2,4-Bis(benzyloxy)phenyl)ethanone is an effective dehydrating agent for the preparation of esters from carboxylic acids and alcohols.
