2-Amino-3-(o-tolyl)propanoic acid is a naturally occurring compound. It is an amino acid that has been found to have antibiotic activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant enterococci. The compound's mechanism of action is not yet fully understood but it has been found to inhibit the synthesis of cell wall precursors. 2-Amino-3-(o-tolyl)propanoic acid can be used as a reagent to separate enantiomers and is also used in the production of teicoplanin.
