Product Information
- Dimethyl 4-Methoxybenzene-1,2-Dicarboxylate
Dimethyl 4-methoxyphthalate is a chemical that belongs to the group of phthalic anhydrides. It is used in the production of dimethyl sulfoxide and hydrochloric acid, as well as in the manufacture of other chemicals such as methoxysulfuric acid and 3-nitrophthalic acid. Dimethyl 4-methoxyphthalate reacts with methoxide to produce dimethyl sulfoxide and hydrochloric acid. This reaction can be catalyzed by sodium methoxide, which is produced when sodium reacts with methanol. Dimethyl 4-methoxyphthalate reacts with water to produce 3-nitrophthalic acid and hydrogen chloride gas. Acidification of this reaction yields sodium chloride and water, while oxidation yields phosphoric acid and water.
