4',6-Diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) is a fluorescent dye that is used to stain cell nuclei in biological samples. This dye binds to the DNA in the nucleus and emits blue fluorescence when excited with ultraviolet light. DAPI has been shown to be an effective marker for epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT). The use of DAPI as a probe for nuclear dna has been demonstrated by its ability to identify benzalkonium chloride, which is a common preservative found in mouthwashes and toothpastes. In addition, this dye can be used as a signal probe for other biological materials.
