Fenoxycarb is a chemical pesticide that belongs to the group of pyrethroids. It has been used as a long-lasting insecticide in agriculture and animal husbandry, but it can also be used in public health to control blowfly populations, which are vectors for bacterial infections such as dysentery and gastroenteritis. Fenoxycarb has been shown to have an optimum concentration of 10 ppm for its toxicity on insects. The main mechanism of action for fenoxycarb is by inhibiting the mitochondrial membrane potential. This inhibition leads to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in oxidative stress and cell death. Fenoxycarb has been shown to be toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause ecological effects if it contaminates water sources.
