Product Information
6-Epi-8-o-acetylharpagide is a chemical compound that can be found in the roots of Verbascum asperum. It has been shown to have cytotoxic activity against human pathogens and is able to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses by blocking their protein synthesis. 6-Epi-8-o-acetylharpagide can also be used to identify the presence of these organisms in blood samples or other biological samples through chromatographic methods. The compound reacts with an enzyme called response element binding protein (REBP) to produce a chromophore that can be detected using nmr spectroscopy. 6-Epi-8-o-acetylharpagide has been shown to deacetylate Asperulosidic acid, which is a substance found in garlic, when it is exposed to light.
