The drug has been shown to have an affinity for the IL-2 receptor and to inhibit the activity of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as indomethacin. It is also active against streptococcal pharyngitis and other infections caused by bacteria, including infectious diseases such as pneumonia. (E)-Cefuroxime-d3 axetil is an oral prodrug that is converted into cefuroxime after absorption in the gastrointestinal tract.
